Harvey County Food & Farm Council
We aim to improve access to local, healthy food.
This short statement summarizes key elements of Resolution 2015-04, in which the County Commission established HCFFC and its purpose. Below is a breakdown of our purpose statement, with excepts from the commission’s resolution:
- Access to “affordable, nutritious and safe food for all residents.” The resolution specifically notes that “food security is a necessity of life, recognized as a condition in which all community residentts must be able to obtain safe, culturally acceptable, nutritionally adequate diet..”
- Local food serves to “enhance economic development, promote agri-toiurism and strenthen local food systems in Harvey County.” This effort strives to “bring stakeholders together” and is a “means for small, agriculture-related businesss development.” It furthers efforts to “coordinate and collaborate with existing initiatives within Harvey County and other regional and state food and farm organizations.
- Healthy food is central to the commission’s charge to enhance the “distribution of affordable, nutritious and safe food for all residents” and to “effect improvement in the health and well-being of all Harvey County residents.”
